WA’s Building Regulations 2012 (the Regulations) sets out the requirements for home-owners to have compliant smoke alarms installed:

prior to the sale or transfer of ownership;
where a dwelling is rented under a residential tenancy agreement or made available for such rental;
and where a dwelling is made available for hire.

Smoke alarms are an important safety feature each home needs and our electrical team are here to keep you safe with our professional smoke alarm installation service. In a house fire, it is the toxic smoke which is the most immediate threat to the safety and lives of your family. Many fires begin at night while people are sleeping and contrary to popular belief, smoke will not awaken people and sends them into a deeper sleep instead. Simply breathing in the smoke itself is enough to cause fatalities in a house fire.

It is recommended that wired in smoke alarms be installed, but there is scope for ten-year battery versions to be used in some circumstances. Legislation also dictates where smoke alarms should be installed for maximum effectiveness.

2 Kinds of Smoke Alarms

There are two kinds of smoke alarms which meet legislative requirements: ionisation and photoelectric.

The WA Department of Fire & Emergency Services highly recommends Photoelectrical smoke alarms as this technology is more sensitive to detecting smouldering fires. As modern furniture and fittings are largely synthetic and tend to smoulder first, photoelectrical alarm sensors will often detect fires faster. From the first contact phone call with Adam to the finished install, we were both very happy with Adam.Our install was... for two 7KW cooling and 8KW heating Mitsubishi Heavy Industries split system inverters (SRK71ZRA-W), one for upstairs, and one for downstairs. The downstairs unit was to be installed on an internal partition wall in the centre of the home (So we required the condensate/ drain water to be pumped up into our roof space, and around 25mtrs to an outside wall using a condensate pump, which was a "Mini Orange" pump mounted inside the pipe trunking next to the unit).The upstairs split system was to be mounted over a two storey stairwell, and the condensate drain was run to the ground floor wall around 20 metres away. The install required Adam to work from a scaffolding plant over the stairwell to reach the unit.Adam was not at all worried about using a condensate pump (We had two other quotes from installers who did not want to install if we needed a condensate drain pump, and they had never installed units requiring that kind of pump as they avoid the effort or learning curve required to be able to do the work), Adam was also happy even though we also wanted both outside units of the splits to be ground mounted at the other end of our two storey home.He had an offsider to assist with the install, and it took them both two full days in mid 30's heat during December of 2019 in MIndarie WA to get the two units in and running.All up, Adam is certainly not the cheapest sparky to use, but he is very honest, trustworthy and reliable and his workmanship is great. I would not hesitate to use him again (We will be installing further spilt systems), nor would we hesitate to recommend him to anyone else either.Thanks for a great install Adam 🙂read more
