Smoke Alarm Laws

WA’s Building Regulations 2012 (the Regulations) sets out the requirements for home-owners to have compliant smoke alarms installed:

prior to the sale or transfer of ownership;
where a dwelling is rented under a residential tenancy agreement or made available for such rental;
and where a dwelling is made available for hire.

See the WA government smoke alarm laws.

Ensuring Your Safety

Smoke alarms are an important safety feature each home needs and our electrical team are here to keep you safe with our professional smoke alarm installation service. As experienced electricians, we can advise you on how many smoke alarms you need and where they should be positioned based on your house design.

In a house fire, it is the toxic smoke which is the most immediate threat to the safety and lives of your family. Many fires begin at night while people are sleeping and contrary to popular belief, smoke will not awaken people and sends them into a deeper sleep instead. Simply breathing in the smoke itself is enough to cause fatalities in a house fire.

It is recommended that wired in smoke alarms be installed, but there is scope for ten-year battery versions to be used in some circumstances. Legislation also dictates where smoke alarms should be installed for maximum effectiveness.

2 Kinds of Smoke Alarms

There are two kinds of smoke alarms which meet legislative requirements: ionisation and photoelectric.

The WA Department of Fire & Emergency Services highly recommends Photoelectrical smoke alarms as this technology is more sensitive to detecting smouldering fires. As modern furniture and fittings are largely synthetic and tend to smoulder first, photoelectrical alarm sensors will often detect fires faster. See their website for more information about types of smoke alarms.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Bruce came to do an AC service today and he was an absolute legend. Kept me informed from go to woah, brought his own drop sheets to keep the house looking clean too. Now the return air filter is sparkling and the fan system is clean and maintained and I couldn't be happier with today's service. Smells great too! Thanks Bruce! And thank you Adam Zoellner and crew

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From start to finish, the replacement of our full ducted air conditioning system was an absolute breeze. Adam was fantastic from our initial consultation, taking the time to discuss our options and making the whole process seamless and efficient.
On installation day, Tyson and the team arrived on time, worked efficiently and professionally, and kept everything tidy. It’s the little things that really make a difference — putting down dust sheets, cleaning up thoroughly at the end, and even using generators to keep our fridges running while the work was underway.
Our new system is quiet, efficient and working beautifully, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.
A big thank you to Adam Zoellner and his team — we would definitely recommend them to anyone needing air conditioning work.
And a special shout-out to Tyson and his excellent playlist! 🎶 It certainly kept us entertained, especially listening to the boys singing along! 😄
